Moth H. Getko

Marriage & Family Therapist Trainee

They/she. I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee completing a MA in Clinical Mental Health at Sonoma State University. I earned a BA in Psychology at Lewis & Clark College. I have extensive experience working with adults with physical disabilities, as well as with those in the end stages of hospice. I also have professional experience implementing applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles and behavioral modification plans with neurodivergent children and adults.

My therapeutic orientation is eclectic and incorporates techniques from gestalt therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic (re)experiencing, parts work, poly-vagal theory, and mindfulness. I enjoy trauma work and hope to pursue an eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) accreditation in the future. I do incorporate practices from EMDR, such as resourcing and bilateral stimulation. My work is centered around feminist principles that are non-hierarchical, trans-affirming, neurodivergence-affirming, poly(amory)-affirming, anti-ableist/sexist/racist, kink and sex positive.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered. Therapy can be what you want it to be: a place to vent, a place to process traumatic experiences, a place to practice skills (e.g. saying no or using a chore sheet), a place to help determine your needs, a place to explore more of yourself, a place to grieve, and so much more. I invite clients to use our sessions in a way that is helpful for them, and I am very receptive to feedback for future sessions. I hope to empower clients to practice being assertive by directing their therapy and feeling safe enough to share their feedback about the therapeutic process.
